Dr. Doctor - Congratulations, A Review.

Since discovering Congratulations at Night currents festival in 2024, I have not been able to pull myself away from their music. Their overall musical presence was overwhelming, their outfits were as perfectly coordinated as their sound.

The track begins, and my ears were instantly engulfed by the crisp drumbeat. I really love this conglomeration of instruments, which adds to the chaos behind the song - messy, unapologetically. My favourite thing about their music. I also want to mention the music video, it's uncomfortable, eerie. There is a range of monsters and creatures throughout, and we see the lead singer, Leah, being injected with vibrant mixtures such as "filth" and, "anti-rot". Whilst getting injected she remains completely emotionless, a possible hint at the systematic issues surrounding intense beauty standards spread through social media, which is slowly indoctrinating the minds of young people worldwide. Paticularly for women, they are expected to want to completely reform their face if it does not conform with the standards. The video's unsettling visuals alongside Leah's stoic expressions serves to amplify this message.

I don't think anyone is meant to feel comfortable listening to congratulations' music - it is a musical

statement. As stated by the band this tracks core meaning reflects “a battle with inner demons”. The erratic synths throughout the track are a sonic representation of the chaos of congratulations. The song is almost paradoxical, its danceable beats, a stark contrast to the unsettling lyrics and visuals.

Does this sound like a bit of you? Then what are you waiting for? Keep an eye out for the future works of congratulations such as their album “Join Hands” which is being released on Feburary 13th.
