CARNE - Polly's Desires.

Arising from Brighton’s diverse music scene, CARNE are what you would get if you mixed the raw energy of Riot Grrrls movement with a controlled, captivating sound, which is truly a blessing to the ears. It takes a lot to get the hairs on the back of my neck to stick up, and the first listen of this track brought that for me. 

The music features an unforgettable bass line which compliments the haunting whispers of the second chorus, and is overall a stand out track from the band.

The band mentioned that ‘the song examines how we find our own womanhood through the mirror of our idols ’which in this case, idols references PJ Harvey. We see the visceral influence of her music throughout, even the title is a clear nod towards PJ’s ‘Is This Desire?’. Expanding on the idea of finding womanhood through the lenses of our idols, when we look up to someone, they often become a blueprint, an offering of the power and creativity of what it means to be a woman. I really love the message this gives, learning to synthesize external inspiration with internal truth. It feels like it is an ode to the beauty of fangirling, an ode to the beauty of falling in love with the first artist you were shown by your parents as a young girl, seeing a girl play the guitar and thinking ‘I can do that too’. 

Ultimately, the track is powerful and extremely well crafted. It showcases the band’s unique blend of chaos and artistic depth.
